Putting it Together:
Wireless Routers with Jeff Kern
Jeff Kern is a CheqTel installer/repairman with 12 years of
service under his belt. One of his jobs is setting up wireless
routers for CheqTel customers. In addition to eliminating network
cable clutter, a wireless router lets you get online from anywhere
in your house. Jeff sets folks up with Linksys wireless routers
because they're the most reliable, in his experience. In addition
to the router, desktop computers will require a USB adapter,
and while most laptops have an internal wireless card, some will
require an external adapter as well.
Wireless routers can accommodate a number of different computers,
depending on a variety of factors, including your setup and the
computers involved; Jeff recently set up a small business with
seven computers running off the same router. Jeff says that people
who are concerned about protecting their data should encrypt
it—a simple procedure he can show you how to do. His number
one piece of advice: "If you have a question, call us."
